About GCGMS
We are a group of about 100 people who are interested in some phase of the Earth Sciences, be it the fossil history of the Earth, the geology, rock hunting or the lapidary arts. We have a good group of people who enjoy the wonderful treasures found within the earth.
The Society was organized on February 17, 1953 and has been active ever since.
We meet at the Rising Tide Ministries Resale shop in Flour Bluff, 9841 S Padre Island Dr, Corpus Christi, TX 78418 at 6:30 pm on the third Thursday of each month, except for the months of June, July & August. We have an interesting program at our meeting each month as well as refreshments and door prizes.
As our annual fund raising event, we sponsor a gem, mineral, fossil and jewelry show every year, usually the first weekend in March at the Regional Fairgrounds in Robstown. We present to the public all sorts of interesting and informative things for them to view and participate in. We present many wonderful exhibits and dealers who display & sell some of the most fabulous stuff you can imagine.
During the summer, we offer several Summer Kids Camps for our members where the kids can learn all about the rock and mineral sciences, and we hold special summer social meeting events.
We sponsor field trips when we can. Field trips usually occur during the cooler months of the year in Texas, and sometimes we even travel to other states to visit interesting sites.
We work with local public and private schools as well as home schooled children to offer presentations about the geological sciences.
In December we have a Christmas party instead of a regular meeting. Come join us at any meeting--visitors are always welcome.
