The Gulf Coast Gem & Mineral Society, Corpus Christi Texas welcomes you!

We are a section 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization for the study and enjoyment of gems, minerals, and fossils.  We were founded in 1953.

Primary society funding is derived from a gem and mineral show that has been conducted annually for over 50 years.  As a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization the Gulf Coast Gem & Mineral Society (GCGMS) also relies on charitable contributions to fulfill its mission.  GCGMS, in soliciting or accepting gifts, shall clearly represent the organization’s policies and mission which might pertain to this exchange and honor all statements about the use of the contribution. GCGMS shall always disclose to potential donors important and relevant information. Every gift will be promptly acknowledged, and donors will be informed of how the gift will be recognized. Specific requests about acknowledgment will be honored consistent with GCGMS practices and policies.  GCGMS reserves the right to refuse a gift if it is determined to be in conflict with the society’s mission.

GCGMS’ Mission

The purpose of the society is to promote popular interest and education in the various earth sciences, in particular those dealing with the art of lapidaries and the science of minerals, fossils, and their associated fields.  The society encourages study in these subjects through presentation of public exhibits, field trips for exploration, study and collection of specimens, the presentation of lectures, illustrated programs, demonstrations, scholarships and similar programs.  We cooperate with educational/scientific institutions and other groups engaged in increasing knowledge in the earth sciences.  The Owen Hopkins Memorial Kid’s Rock Camp was established by the society to continue Owen’s longtime passion to educate our youth and stimulate their interest in the earth sciences.
